The School's house in the North West, set in the West Pennine Moors above Chorley.

The house

rinscall Hall is an early Victorian country house on the West Pennine Moors, set in landscaped grounds above the village of Brinscall, near Chorley in Lancashire. The building is stone-built, with generous principal rooms and views across the moorland. The grounds include formal garden areas, a kitchen garden, and open land managed by those who live and work at the hall.

The hall is a working community as well as a study centre. Members of the School live on the property and maintain the house, the gardens, and the kitchen garden. Beekeeping, arts, and Sanskrit study are among the activities that take place alongside the formal philosophy programme.

The setting is quietly removed from the surrounding towns. The moorland begins at the edge of the grounds.

What happens here

Practical Philosophy courses for the North West run from Brinscall Hall. The curriculum follows the School's established programme: weekly evening seminars, termly study days, and residential weekends. The course is open to new students throughout the year.

Beyond the philosophy programme, the hall hosts arts weekends, Sanskrit study, music, and retreats. The life of the house extends well beyond the formal timetable.

Brinscall Hall is held and operated by the Fellowship of the School of Economic Science (North West), a sister charity to the School of Philosophy and Economic Science. The Practical Philosophy programme at Brinscall follows the School's curriculum.
