Advanced Economics – from John de Val (tutor)

Our current economic problems will not be solved by the application of present-day economic orthodoxy which is now one of the problems rather than the means to a solution. This is the assertion in a book entitled A Philosophy for a Free Society which offers a diagnosis of how we arrived at the present situation and what kind of philosophy is required in order to achieve the possibility of prosperity for everyone. The book is a collection of essays and in the first half of the sessions this term we shall look at two of these essays; The Archaeology of Economic Collapse; A 4000 Year Perspective and The Health and Wealth of the Nation: A Critique of the Welfare State.

In the second half we will explore whether the golden rule i.e.’ do unto others as you would have them do unto you ’ is guiding any successful businesses in the world economy today and, if so, how.

Advanced Economics meets on a Tuesday Evening 7.00 – 9.30 pm.

Enrol today for the summer term.
